Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS)
Annual Appraisal for academic staff of the university by the Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS) is an initiative by the UGC as a measure to ensure the maintenance of standards in higher education institutions. The assessment involves all round contributions of faculty namely, curricular, co- curricular and research. The above tool also helps in evaluating the performance of the faculty in terms of API (academic performance index) while considering them for career advancement.
The process of Annual PBAS involves the submission of data pertaining to the assessment period in the prescribed format. The PBAS captures the data in three categories.
- The First category is about Teaching, Learning, and Evaluation Related Activities.
This category captures the data related to percentages of lectures conducted, number of subjects taught, participatory and innovative teaching-learning methods adopted, examination related assignments etc. Maximum API Scores Allocated in this category is 125. The minimum API Scores Required is 75.
- The Second category is about Co-Curricular, Extension and Professional Development Related Activities.
In this category data pertaining to faculty involvement in Co-curricular & extracurricular activities like filed studies/education tours, sports/cultural events; Extension activities such as NSS/NCC and Professional Development Related Activities like participation in professional workshops/conferences etc. are captured. Faculty contributing at various administrative responsibility such as organizing conferences, placement coordinator, IQAC etc. are also considered in this category.
Maximum API Scores Allocated is 50. Minimum API Score Required is 15.
- The Third category is about Research and Academic Contribution.
The data related to faculty contribution in terms of number and quality of research publications, books and book chapters, funded research projects, research guidance, patents published etc. The detailed instructions for scoring the API in these category is developed as per the guidelines issued by UGC.
JSS AHER has initiated online submission of the PBAS data from academic year 2020-21 in the jssuonline portal. The data submitted by the faculty are reviewed and approved by the authorities.
