Microbiology is a broad discipline of biology that deals with the function, structure, uses, and the existence of microscopic organisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa which cannot be seen through naked eyes. Microbiology also interlinks with other areas of biology such as molecular biology, genetics, metabolism & immunology. It is an integral part of many disciplines such as Pharmacy, Medicine, clinical research, agriculture, dairy industry, water industry, chemical and fermentation technology. Microbiologists employ their knowledge and skills in diverse settings that include medical / clinical laboratories, industries that rely on microbes and their involvement in various processes, public health institutions, environment and waste management segments, and research organisations. The program will also assist the students in pursuing their advanced interests in the field of Microbiology at master’s level.
The curriculum has been designed into Core, Skill Based, Allied and Elective papers. The core paper titles are as follows:
The program also provides for electives concerning specific areas in microbiology and gives opportunities for students to link with biotechnology, environmental science and food and nutrition. The electives offered by Microbiology are as follows
10+2 with Science subjects
The program supports the building of student’s careers – starting as a Microbiologist and specializing over the years with training and knowledge accumulation in specific fields of interest and emerging as highly specialized scientists besides also evolving as entrepreneurs in applied fields of dairying, waste management, Pharmaceutical Industry, etc.
