School of Life Sciences Ooty

Division of Biochemistry

The focus of Division of Biochemistry is to discover, pioneer and share knowledge about the molecular and biochemical mechanisms driving health and disease. To realise our focus and to pioneer in cutting-edge scientific investigations, the division focuses on four key areas: teaching, research, training and placement.

The faculty members take dedicated efforts to individualize mentorship to students by encouraging innovative ideas and approaches in teaching. The faculty members are committed in rendering the basic mechanisms of biological processes through fundamental research and disseminating that knowledge via education and service to our community.

The Division of Biochemistry offers BSc, MSc and PhD course in Biochemistry. The BSc course in Biochemistry is designed as per NEP curriculum and offers a cross-cutting foundational knowledge and understanding in multiple disciples of Biochemistry. The course explores the structure and function of biological molecules and understanding the complexity of life. The MSc course in Biochemistry is prescribed as per UGCs’ Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and offers a transformative advance in the understanding of biological systems at molecular level. Problem solving and analytical skills developed during the course attracts placements in Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical industries. Students at PG level are well exposed to industrial culture through industrial visits and internships during their study, making them ready for the challenging career ahead. The division identifies the entrepreneurship skills and innovative thinking of the students and creates a platform to bring their ideas to prototypes.

The division also offers PhD in Life Sciences with facilities for conducting research in various disciplines such as Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Enzymology, Pharmacology and Nanotechnology. The University also supports the scholars with fellowship to onduct research in cutting-edge areas of Sciences. Scholars publish their research findings in reputed and indexed journals and further are encouraged to patent their technology or process.
