Established in the year 1986 to provide comprehensive and quality health care to women, the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has progressed from a centre providing basic obstetrics and gynaecology care to a centre of excellence in teaching, training, research and innovation with dedicated and experienced faculty with 120 beds.
Our department takes great pride in being one of the centers with advanced endoscopic facilities. It is also a center recognized for PPIUCD training. Establishment of andrology lab is going to be the next milestone followed by the setting up of assisted reproduction centre. The efficiency of obstetric care, especially high-risk obstetrics, is reflected by a very low maternal mortality rate of 91 per 100000 live births and perinatal mortality rate of 13 per 1000 births which are quality indicators for obstetric care.
The department offers MBBS, MS, DGO and MSc in Clinical Embryology courses. Apart from teaching and training as a part of the curriculum, the staffs of our department participate whole-heartedly in various outreach programmes. They attend health camps organized by different organizations, take care of antenatal patients in the urban slum of Mysore at UHC –Bamboo Bazaar, extend health care services to women attending Suttur and Chamaraja Nagara JSS Hospital, give talks to create health awareness program to women and students, to mention a few.
