Established in the year 2015 as a Division under the shield of the Faculty of Life Sciences, the Division of Medical Statistics introduced an innovative and career- oriented postgraduate programme, M.Sc. Medical Statistics (2 years), under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) framework. The programme was envisioned to address the growing demand for skilled statistical professionals in healthcare, clinical research, pharmaceutical industries, and biomedical sciences by integrating strong theoretical foundations with practical applications in medical and life science research.
Expanding its academic portfolio, the Division received approval in September 2023 to launch the undergraduate programme B.Sc. (Honours) Statistics & Data Analytics, designed in alignment with contemporary developments in statistics, data science, and emerging technologies.
Presently, the Division offers a B.Sc. (Honours) programme in Statistics & Data Analytics, a two-year M.Sc. programme in Medical Statistics, and a Ph.D. programme, providing comprehensive academic pathways from undergraduate education to advanced research.
Over the years, the Division of Medical Statistics has grown progressively as a centre for academic excellence, research innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The curriculum emphasizes advanced training in Biostatistics, Research Methodology, Epidemiology, Clinical Trial Design, Statistical Modelling, Statistical Computing, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and their applications in healthcare and biomedical research.
The Division of Medical Statistics is strengthened by experienced faculty members with expertise in Statistics, Medical Research, Data Analytics, and Computational Sciences. Through outcome-based teaching, hands-on analytical training, research, and consultancy activities, the Division develops analytical and problem-solving skills among students. Its interdisciplinary research ecosystem promotes collaborations with medical, dental, pharmacy, and life science disciplines to address real-world healthcare challenges. The Division continues to prepare skilled professionals in healthcare Analytics, clinical research, pharmaceutical statistics, AI, and biomedical data science.
