Every year 12 th of August, the birthday day of Dr. S.R.Ranganathan, the Father of Library science in India, is celebrated as the ‘Librarian’s day’ with the aim to promote the use of libraries. The Librarians of DW&H and DHSMS jointly organized this event on 08.09.2017 instead of 12 th August. About 400 students participated in the programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Mohamed Minhaj, the chief guest of the day. The objective of the program was to create awareness and educate the library users on effective use of Libraries.

Prof. GK Chandrashekarappa, Chairman of Department of Water and Health (FLS), in his address, stressed the importance of reading and use of the libraries. A brief biography and a short film on the life and works of Dr. S.R.Ranganathan was presented.

The next session was on a very interesting topic “Effective searching techniques in Google” by an eminent speaker Prof. Mohamed Minhaj. It was not just theoretical but a demonstration on how to use the most popular “Google” to the maximum extent. He gave important tips on simple and advanced search techniques to get exhaustive information on any topic. The session was well appreciated by all the participants.

We thank the JSS University, the management of both the Departments and the fellow Librarians of JSS University for their support.
