The libraries provide a range of study spaces from a noisy open group study at one end to the single silent open and close study space at the other end, conducive for reading. The libraries are open for more than twelve hours in a day throughout the week, which facilitates the users to use the library at their convenient and preferable time. The computer technology is an integral part of every library and its educational resources. All the libraries have ensured access to a very large number of computer stations and study spaces. All reading areas have Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Faculty and students have access not only to their libraries but also to the other libraries under JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research. The comprehensive collection comprises of both traditional resources viz. books and journals in print and the electronic resources – the CD ROMs, videos, slides, e-books, e-journals, and online databases. A modest collection of books for competitive exams is maintained. A user can relax with the library’s general collection of biographies, fiction, philosophy etc. Collaborative services provide library members the access to the rich collection of about 65 thousand titles, 2000 journals and 10 online databases.
The libraries provide a range of services through a team of dedicated library staff. The services aim to put information within easy reach. The conventional services – reference and lending, provide the staff and students the option of either using the information resources within the library or borrowing (textbooks) them for a stipulated period. Special assistance is given on request for literature search, scientific writing of articles and citing references. The students and staff can avail the reprographic and scanning facilities in the library.
The objective of the library is not complete until the users are aware of the resources available for their use. A day long library induction program is conducted by the Librarians for every batch of fresh students at the beginning of the academic year. The orientation provides an overview of the collection of the library, its services and the classification system practised in the library. The users are given hands on training in the use of all the three categories of information sources – primary, secondary, and tertiary sources available in the library.
Workshops are conducted to educate the students, researchers, and faculty to search the various information sources and the retrieval techniques to be used. Hands on training by service providers of the various databases are also included under these workshops. Well stacked libraries with access to a wide range of information resources have resulted in scholarly activities benefitting the students and the society at large through dissemination and application of the information in the form of scientific & scholarly communications.
