IPR Cell, JSSAHER, Mysuru

The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell at JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSSAHER), Mysuru, is a central unit established to promote, facilitate, protect, and manage the intellectual property (IP) generated through research and innovation across the university.

Functioning under the Office of Research, the IPR Cell plays a vital role in supporting faculty, staff, students, and inventors in safeguarding and commercializing their intellectual creations. The Cell provides end-to-end guidance, from invention disclosure to IP filing and technology transfer, thereby fostering a robust culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the university ecosystem.

Objectives

  • To sensitize and educate all stakeholders on the importance and procedures of Intellectual Property Rights.
  • To facilitate patent, copyright, trademark, and design filings across all disciplines.
  • To promote industry collaborations and enable effective technology transfer.
  • To build in-house capacity and strengthen institutional IP policy and compliance

Functions of the IPR Cell

IP Awareness & Capacity Building

  • Organizing workshops, seminars, training sessions
  • Promoting IP literacy across departments

IP Filing & Legal Assistance

  • Reviewing invention disclosures
  • Assigning patent attorneys
  • Coordinating prior art search and application filing (patent, copyright, design)

IP Evaluation & Commercialization

  • Assessing Technology Readiness Level (TRL)
  • Conducting patent review meetings with external experts
  • Facilitating licensing, industry connections, and NDAs

Renewal & Portfolio Management

  • Monitoring IP application status
  • Managing renewals and government fees (up to 10 years for patents)

Regulatory & Legal Support

  • Drafting assignment deeds and agreements
  • Managing FER responses and IP law compliance

Collaborations & Industry Outreach

  • Partnering with KSCST, NRDC, IPTeL, BEST Cluster
  • Organizing conclaves and facilitating incubator-industry engagement

Partnership with KSCST

The IPR Cell, JSSAHER , Mysuru is a recognized partner with the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST). Through this partnership:

  • technology transfer and commercialization efforts are supported
  • KSCST facilitates industry linkages and validation
