The Neonatology Fellowship Program is designed to improve the ability of the qualified pediatricians combining the clinical and research training.
The Program is accredited to JSSAHER and satisfies the requirements for sub-specialty training of IAP and NNF (NNF accreditation is underway).
Eligibility: The Program is suitable for individuals who have completed their Post-graduation in General Pediatrics and wish to broaden their experience.
The training include practical hands on learning of managing sick neonatal cases needing level 3 care (Mechanical ventilation, TPN and inotropes to mention a few), follow-up of neonatal graduates in a multidisciplinary clinic and routine care of babies in the postnatal ward and special care. The academic curriculum comprises of the topics on Perinatology, Basic neonatology, System-wise conditions and neonatal therapeutics. - Neonatal examination & anthropometry
- Endotracheal Intubation
- Neonatal resuscitation
- Neonatal ventilation : CPAP, Mechanical ventilation
- Blood sampling : Capillary, venous, arterial
- Insertion of peripheral venous, umbilical venous / arterial catheters
- Monitoring : invasive, non-invasive
- Enteral feeding (Volalle, gavage, breastfeeding)
- Lactation management
- Parenteral nutrition
- Lumbar puncture
- Placing of "Chest Tube"
- Exchange Transfusion
- Neonatal drug therapy
- Developmental assessment
- Infection control & Universal precautions
- Handling, effective utilization and trouble shooting of neonatal equipment.
- Decision making, clinical diagnosis, planning & interpreting investigations
- Management of Neonatal problems
- Functional Neonatal ECHO
- Communication : Communication with parents, families and communities, Interdepartmental communication
- Active research program in the unit ensures the fellow conducts at least one high quality research and publishes in reputed journal.
