Mysuru’s 10 day Dasara festival triumph is world famous. The Wodeyar dynasty ruled over the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysuru from 1399 to 1947. It is the only royal family in India that has ruled over a kingdom for more than 500 years. The rule of this royal family extending over 5 centuries was headed by 25 kings. Mysuru is well-connected by road from Bangalore, Mangalore, Chennai, Pune, Coimbatore, Ooty, Kozhikode, Kannur and Panaji (Goa). Buses are frequently connecting different parts of the city and auto-rickshaws and the tongas (horse-drawn carriages) are equally popular.
