Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

The department of Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery was established in 1986. It has been providing quality care at affordable cost ever since its inception. The quality care that has been provided by the department has created an impact o the population all over the district and the surrounding major districts as well.

The department has itself earned a formidable reputation for its outstanding management of minor surgical procedures, casualties, trauma, pathologies(tumors and cysts) of the jaws, reconstructive surgeries, orthognathic procedures and TMJ surgeries.

The department boasts of 11 eminent surgeons and an anaesthetist who have been associated with the department on an average of more than 12 years. There is a very dynamic post-graduate teaching programme which provides hands-on experience and a comprehensive training in Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery.

Facilities

The department is well equipped with all the contemporary diagnostic and treatment equipments.

Minor oral surgery

The department has a well organised and spacious clinic for exodontias and other minor oral surgical procedures. These procedures are majorly carried out by undergraduates and post graduates in different sections under the supervision of teaching faculty.

Major oral surgery

The O.T complex consists of two operation theatres. A closed circuit T.V system that allows the procedures to be viewed in the seminar hall Adequate number of beds in the male ward , female ward including the pre-operative and post-operative holding and well trained and dedicated nursing staff.

Maxillofacial trauma center is highly equipped to provide care to the patients with facial injuries caused by road traffic accidents, fall, sports or assault. Facial trauma may present with skin lacerations, fracture of jaw bones, fracture of cheek bones (zygoma), nose, periorbital bones, frontal bone and other cranial bones. Facial injuries are complex and are often associated with injuries to other vital organs, hence it requires a multidisciplinary approach. Along with the maxillofacial surgeons the center has highly trained clinicians who specializes in traumatic injuries including neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, plastic surgeons and radiologists.

The center has access to resources such as an operating room, resuscitation area, laboratory, and variety of highly specialized diagnostic equipments. It one of the few multidisciplinary hospitals having 24hrs on call oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Mysuru.

On reporting to the hospital, the patients are triaged into various zones by our emergency medical department. Patients with extensive injuries are managed in ICUs for round the clock care by the specialized nursing staff. Maxillofacial surgeons work along with pediatricians for the management of injuries to children of various age groups. Patients often suffer from psychological issues due to facial injuries hence proper rehabilitation is provided to restore the normal function and esthetics. The surgery is done via minimally invasive procedures. The center is capable of providing the best cosmetic and functional results to the patient.

Social cause

The department has a social commitment through a multi-disciplinary approach in treating cleft lip and cleft palate patients free of cost through the JSS SMILE programme. The department provides 24*7 service to patients and is catered to receive emergencies round the clock.
