The Comprehensive Training in Implant Dentistry (CTID) is a structured, competency-based training program conducted by the Implant Dentistry Clinic, JSS Dental College & Hospital, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSSAHER), Mysuru. Conceived to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise, the program equips postgraduate students, house surgeons, and faculty members with the essential skills required to confidently diagnose, plan, and perform implant-supported rehabilitation using contemporary evidence-based protocols.
The program is exclusively designed for House Surgeons (Interns), Postgraduate Students, and Faculty of JSS Dental College & Hospital, providing a common platform for developing standardized clinical competencies in implant dentistry across different levels of professional training. Conducted over a period of 1 year (six-month mentorship period followed by 6 months of post course training ), the curriculum is structured to allow participants to progressively build knowledge and practical skills while continuing their routine academic and clinical responsibilities.
Implant dentistry has evolved into an integral component of modern dental practice, demanding proficiency not only in surgical techniques but also in digital workflows, prosthetically driven treatment planning, guided surgery, regenerative procedures, and long-term maintenance. Recognizing these evolving clinical demands, the CTID curriculum has been meticulously designed to provide comprehensive training through a combination of didactic sessions, preclinical exercises, digital planning, live surgical demonstrations, and supervised hands-on clinical experience.
The program emphasizes a prosthetically driven philosophy of implant treatment planning. Participants are trained to perform systematic patient evaluation, interpret cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans, assess anatomical limitations, and formulate predictable treatment plans. Digital technologies, including virtual implant planning software and three-dimensional printing, are integrated into the curriculum, enabling participants to appreciate the complete digital workflow from diagnosis to guided implant placement.
A distinctive strength of CTID is its extensive practical exposure. Participants receive hands-on training in implant surgical protocols, implant impression techniques, prosthetic rehabilitation, and management of implant-supported restorations under expert supervision. This progressive training enables clinicians to manage cases of varying complexity with greater confidence and predictability.
The program is conducted by experienced faculty members in collaboration with leading implant industry partners, ensuring that participants gain exposure to internationally accepted implant systems, biomaterials, surgical instrumentation, and digital technologies. The carefully structured curriculum combines scientific evidence with practical application, allowing participants to translate classroom learning directly into clinical practice.
The Comprehensive Training in Implant Dentistry represents JSS Dental College & Hospital's commitment to advancing excellence in implant education. By integrating clinical expertise, digital innovation, regenerative principles, and hands-on mentorship, CTID prepares clinicians to meet the growing demand for predictable implant therapy and contributes to the development of highly competent implant practitioners capable of delivering world-class patient care.
