M.Pharm - Pharmaceutical Chemistry
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry was established in the year 1988. The M. Pharm. program in Pharmaceutical Chemistry was initiated in the same year and aimed to deliver expertise in the emerging areas of Drug Discovery, Drug Design, Develop documentation/Research writing expertise. The programme is also committed to deliver skills in the innovative processes for the manufacturing of drug and drug intermediates and their quality assurance using sophisticated instruments. Our objective is Hit to Lead and Lead Optimization, Innovative Process Development for the Synthesis, Drugs and Drug Intermediates, API Handling and Patent and Regulatory Affairs. The programme also deals with In silico drug design and development of novel chemotherapeutic and neurobehavioral agents. Custom synthesis based on various biological targets. Polymeric Drug design. Isolation, characterization and evaluation of bioactive constituents from natural sources.

Pass in the following examinations
- B.Pharm Degree examinations in an Indian University established by law in India from an institution approved by PCI and has scored not less than 55% of maximum marks (aggregate of 4 years B.Pharm).
- Every student, selected for admission to post graduate pharmacy program in any PCI approved institution should have obtained registration with the State Pharmacy Council or should obtain the same within one month from the date of his/her admission, failing which the admission of the candidate shall be cancelled.
- Selection Criteria Through Merit and written test/ personal interview.
After completing the M. Pharm (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) programme, the students can get opportunity to work in various Pharmaceutical Industries in Research and Development, Quality control and manufacturing areas.
They can also work in academic for teaching B.Pharm and M.pharm students.
The students also opted for higher studies like Ph.D etc.

To establish a complete drug discovery lab from Drug design to Biological activity
Dr. R. Kalirajan has 24 years of teaching and research experience. Currently he is working as an Associate professor & HoD at JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, Since July 2006, under JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (Deemed to be University), Mysuru .He has completed his Ph.D in the year 2013 and he is an approved guide for Ph.D under JSS University, Mysuru. Published 115 research papers in various reputed national and International journals with the impact factor range of 0.1 to 7.1 and has H-index - 16 by Scopus and also 10 patents. Rs. 14.35 lakhs Received from MHRD and AICTE for Phase-II of Drug Discovery Hackathon for COVID-19 Drug discovery, entitled “Optimization, design and synthesis of novel lead molecules against multiple targets of SARS CoV-2”. Received Rs.14 lakhs research grant from AICTE under RPS scheme as co-investigator for his Ph.D research work and also received Rs.32 lakhs research grant from ICMR as co-investigator. Currently he is guiding 06 Research scholars in JSS Academy of Higher education & Research, Mysuru and Guided 11 PG, 09 UG Projects and currently guiding 06 research scholars. Presented many research papers in various national and international conferences and received travel Grant Rs.48000/- from JSS University, for presentation at Dubai and Rs.10,000/- from IPA, Nilgiris for presentation at FIP, Thailand. Published 09 books by Lap Lambert publishing company, Germany, one text book for Medicinal chemistry and also Laboratory manuals for UG chemistry subjects.Has web blog for lecture notes in the name of www.rkrnotes.blogspot.com which is visited by about more than 01 lakh visitors globally.Received Rs.3 lakhs grant from AICTE under STTP scheme, Rs.50,000/- from DST, Rs.50,000/- from CSIR, Rs.40,000/- from ICMR, Rs.75,000/- & Rs.30,000/- from JSS University for organizing seminar/workshop as organizing secretary.Nominated as member in Board of studies in Karpagam Academy of Higher Education- Deemed to be University Coimbatore, Tamilnadu and also in Amrita School of pharmacy in Amrita vishwa vidhyapeetam university, Coimbatore. He is the winner in Drug discocery Hackathon-2020 for COVID-19 drug discovery organized by Govt of India, AICTE, CSIR, MHRD. Tamilnadu.He is an examination coordinator in JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty for coordinating all sessional examinations and university examinations as Dy.Chief superintendent, Room superintendent, Custodian for Valuation etc. He also received many awards from various agencies such as Best Teacher Award, Research Grant Receiver Award, Eminent Researcher Award, Best citizen of India Award, Best innovation & Research in Healthcare Award, Outstanding Scientist Award etc.
