This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding in extremely valuable fields to biotechnology students, which plays a crucial role in determining the future use and applications in medicine, drug discovery and pharmaceutical sector. Pharmaceutical biotechnology is a relatively new and growing field where biotechnology principles are applied to drug development. The entire course is designed in a manner that the students will learn various technologies that use living organisms for obtaining biological products and bioprocesses in engineering, cloning technology, medicine and other fields requiring Bioproducts.
The course also comprises a broad overview of micro and macro organisms, hybridomas technology, protein formulation, protein design, computational biotechnology, along with Biotech Pharmaceutical Drugs, Pharmacogenomics, and other biotechnology products such as antibodies, nucleic acid products and vaccines are a majority of therapeutic drugs on the current market. Students will also understand the concepts of learning the underlying values of health and disease, the basic molecular mechanisms regulating the function of relevant nucleic acids, synthesis and molecular purification. The course duration is two years consist of four semesters, and after completion the course that provides many jobs opening for the students.
Pass in the following examinations
The program provides a balanced and comprehensive knowledge of the basic as well as applied aspects related to Pharmaceutical Biotechnology that would enhance the basic aptitude of each student and prepare them to take up the challenges in the varied and multi-faceted applications of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology in drug development, drug discovery, disease diagnosis and prognosis. There are good career opportunities in the field of Biotechnology students could be placed as the scientist in the areas of Human health, pharmacy, animal health, animal husbandry, dairy, chemical and biochemical, food processing, crime and parentage disputes, agriculture, forestry and fisheries. There is a large-scale employment in research laboratories run by the government as well as the corporate sector. He earned his Master's degree from Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, and his Ph.D. from JSS University, Mysore. Currently, Dr. Rajeshkumar is focused on leveraging computational biology, algorithms, and mathematical models to predict differentially expressed genes in microarray datasets, as well as designing various vaccine models. His research portfolio also includes work on probiotics, microbial secondary metabolite biosynthesis, free radical biology, and cancer biology.
Dr. Rajeshkumar is an active member of numerous national and international associations and serves as a reviewer for several prestigious journals, including those published by Elsevier. He has delivered numerous invited international lectures, chaired various scientific sessions, published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and holds a patent for an oral formulation. His teaching responsibilities encompass Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Molecular Biology at the graduate level, as well as Advanced Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, and Computational Technology for postgraduate students.
At his institution, he has been the Program Coordinator for the PG Diploma in Bioinformatics since 2018, where he has played a critical role in curriculum development and student mentorship. One of his online bioinformatics programs, administered by JSSAHER in Mysuru, received approval from India's Ministry of External Affairs. Building on the success of the PG Diploma in Bioinformatics, he launched two specialized certificate programs in Pharmacoinformatics, Immunoinformatics, and Vaccine Design in 2024.
As the Head in Charge of the Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology since 2020, Dr. Rajeshkumar has led departmental initiatives, overseen academic programs, and ensured that the department's educational offerings meet industry standards. His contributions to the field have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the K.N. Narasimhiah Award from the Society of Biotechnologists India and the International Outstanding Researcher Award from Asia Research Awards for his work in vaccine candidate discovery.
