Pharmacology, a branch of biomedical science, plays a vital role in drug discovery and development in identifying lead molecules having therapeutic potential with minimal toxicity. Today, pharmacological research is inevitable not only in pharmaceutical sciences but also in life science research. The thrust areas of research dealt under the postgraduate course structure include screening of herbal or new chemical entities for neuroprotection, cardio protection and chemoprevention as well as toxicity studies.

Mrs. Mahalakshmi A. M is presently working as Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology. In her 08 years of teaching experience and 4 years of research experience, she has published around 30 scientific papers in peer reviewed national and international journals. she has published 5 book chapters in pubmed indexed books. She has recieved IBRO/APRC fellowship, from international brain research organization. she has presented her research findings in many national and international conferences. Also recieved best poster presentation award in Society for Neurochemistry India international conference in 2019. Her area of expertise is Neuropharmacology in specific Sleep and Aging associated cognitive decline. She is guiding PG students and registered for pursuing PhD.
