Providing information related to medicines and poisons to healthcare professionals and patients alike is among the core functions of a pharmacist. Recognizing this primary responsibility, the course is designed to impart knowledge and skills in this direction. The program not only provides in-depth knowledge about different types of poisons and management of poisoning but also on various other concepts of healthcare like clinical statistics, pharmacoeconomics, medication misadventures, developing evidence-based guidelines and, investigational drugs.
The program is one-year duration with both theory and practical components being taught.
Concepts are taught under two subjects, Medicine Information & Poison Information. The practical comprise of experiential learning with hands-on assignments.

Mrs. Savitha R S has been associated with the College of Pharmacy, Mysuru at JSS University since May 2007. She has been involved in teaching pathophysiology and pharmacotherapeutics to a great extent apart from other courses. She has contributed towards improving instructional quality by way of employing a variety of classroom teaching practices that allow for both teacher-directed and self-regulated learning. She has attended national and international conferences where she has presented research papers in the area of pharmacoepidemiology, outcomes research, and pharmacy practice. She has worked in the area of medication-related problems, and the provision of pharmaceutical care to renally impaired patients for her Ph.D. Her other areas of interest include respiratory medicine and pediatric medicine. She is a member of local and national professional bodies.
