Biotechnology programme aims to provide an advanced understanding of the core principles and topics of modern-day Biotechnology, and to enable students to acquire a specialized knowledge and training in the Life Science sectors. A pass in Bachelor Degree [B.Sc.(Life Sciences/ Allied Sciences) / B.E./ B.Tech in Biotechnology/ Chemical Engineering) / B.Pharm / MBBS / BDS)] with biology as a major subject recognized by UGC or an equivalent accrediting Board.
Biotechnology students trained in fields such as biochemical, genetic engineering, molecular biology, immunology, plant and animal biotechnology, bioprocess technology, etc., can find their career in developing new technologies, processes and products that will address some of the current needs of society.

Dr. T.S. Gopenath currently serves as Professor & Coordinator, Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, Faculty of Life Sciences. He has gained experience in research, industry, publication, academics and administration. Exposure to various fields has provided him with an opportunity to learn and share all the knowledge that he has acquired over the years. He was awarded with DAAD Scholarship which is a prestigious scholarship from the Federal Republic of Germany to pursue his Doctoral studies at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. He completed his Postdoc at the same University before starting his teaching profession in India. His vast experience in 3D cell culture using chick retina as a model system has helped him acquire the DST-ECR award. His research is now focused on the degenerative effects of environmental pollutants including pesticides, micro and nano plastics on embryonic retinal development and to find appropriate treatment methods which are time and cost effective. He has 70 publications and 25 book chapters to his credentials.
Developmental Biology & Neurogenetics - Embryonic retinal development, effects of pesticides on embryonic retinal development with special emphasis to the cholinergic system and alternative treatment methods.
