Dr. Siddesha JM is currently working as Assistant Professor, in Division of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences, JSS AHER, Mysuru. Prior to joining JSS AHER, Mysuru, he was a Guest Faculty in Biochemistry, Yuvaraja`s College, University of Mysore, Mysuru. Before starting his career as a Teaching Professional, he had postdoctoral experience at Tulane University and University of Vermont, USA, and University of Agricultural Sciences-Bengaluru, GKVK, India. He has received his M.Sc and Ph.D in Biochemistry from University of Mysore, Mysuru.
His research expertise includes hypertension, and hypertensive heart diseases. During Ph.D, his goal was to design and develop new inhibitors for Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE), a master regulator of blood pressure. Doctoral studies include the structure-based design and synthesis of ACE inhibitory peptides. Also, with keen interest in traditional medicine, altilisol, a phenolic compound was isolated and characterized targeting ACE. Further, during postdoctoral research, his focus was to elucidate the molecular mechanisms and the role of Reversion-Inducing Cysteine-Rich Protein with Kazal motifs (RECK) in hypertension-induced cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis. Also, he has contributed to the studies investigating the role of TRAF3IP2 in development and progression of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis. Moreover, he has worked as a team in researches on lung inflammation and fibrosis, snake venom, and clinical enzymes including PLA2, proteases, lipoxygenases etc.
So far, he has published a total of eighteen (18) research articles in peer-reviewed science citation index journals and a book chapter in Recent Progress in Medicinal Plants-Drug Plants III. Also, he has presented his findings at various international and national conferences, seminars and scientific meetings.
Research Focus: (a) traditional to translational medicine in management of hypertension, (b) molecular mechanisms involved in hypertensive cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis (c) nutritional approach to manage hypertensive cardiovascular diseases.
In addition, he is involved in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students. He also serves as reviewer for various international journals and as member in professional societies including American Heart Association, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Association of Immunologist, and Indian Society for Atherosclerosis Research.
Currently, Dr. Siddesha is looking forward for the interested, enthusiastic and scientifically oriented students/aspirants to mentor for their doctorate degree in Life Sciences.
