Department of Pharmacy Practice
Department of Pharmacy Practice (DPP) was established in the year 1996 to evolve the concept of clinical pharmacy through practice and education in India and to focus on the importance of the involvement of practicing pharmacists in patient care. Clinical Pharmacy Practice was established through a model center for the practice of clinical pharmacy at Govt. Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Ooty, 620 bedded tertiary care hospital. The clinical pharmacy services to the GMCH and other health care settings of this region achieved appreciation from the medical fraternity.
The Department has established a very good infrastructure for clinical pharmacy practice and education/research. Clinical Pharmacy Education was established through Post Graduate program through M. Pharm (Pharmacy Practice) and M. Pharm (Clinical Practice and Research) courses. Our post–graduate trained students have been appointed in the different institutions/pharmacy/ organizations/industries, enabling clinical pharmacy concept/approach to be established in these settings.
Further, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice has initiated Pharm D (Doctor of Pharmacy) and Pharm D (Post Baccalaureate) program in the year 2008 and the same has been widely accepted by the various hospitals, pharmaceutical drug manufacturers, clinical research organizations etc. We are very proud to announce that our Pharm D program is certified by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), USA, the first of its recognition in Asia Pacific region.
