Leadership Development Conclave

SecondLeadership Development Conclave of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru was held on21stto 24thof November 2018 at Sri RajendraAuditorium, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru. The conclave was focused on the theme, exploring leadership qualities-context, reflections, and Mindsets. Eminent resource faculty who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills in their life and profession namely, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, Chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Dr C G Betsurmath, Executive Secretary JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Dr B Suresh, Vice-Chancellor, JSS AHER, Dr. Michael J. A. Rouse, B.Pharm (Hons), MPS, Assistant Executive Director, Professional Affairs and Director, International Services, Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), Chicago, Illinois, USA, Dr. Arijana Meštrovic, Mpharm PharmaExpert Consultancy and Education,Zagreb, Croatia, Dr Pradeep Desai, CEO of Thalesat Innovations Private Limited Bangalore, Mr Atul Shah and Team from GITS, Goa have shared their knowledge, skills and experience in leadership with the delegates.

On 21st November, the participants underwent an ice-breaking session and participated in an activity-based session “World cafe conversation: where is our boat sailing to, captain? new horizons of education in India. Through this activity, the delegates reflected where they are in the current world and where do they want to reach individually or as an institution over the next few years. Dr. H Basavanagowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College, and Dr. Prashant Vishwanath, Coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, JSSAHER describe the objectives of leadership development conclave.

Inaugurating the workshop, Dr. C G Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, congratulated the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research for organizing such an event to provide an opportunity to the young leaders in the institution to sharpen their leadership attitudes and skills. He reflected on his personal experiences on the transformational leadership and qualities of an efficient leader in the public sector. He emphasized on the point that any budding leader should get himself equipped with changing technological advancements to grow and sustain in the current digital era. In the lead talk on “ Leadership: Prepare today to be resilient tomorrow, Dr. B Suresh, Vice-Chancellor of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research and Dr. Pradeep Desai, CEO, Thalaset described how today's leaders need to change themselves to adapt to the changing patterns of leadership challenges across the globe.

Delivering the benediction, JagadguruSri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, Chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research described the importance of inculcating the leadership skills inefficient management of an organization. He emphasized on various techniques of self-management, the role of Indian tradition, culture, yoga, and pranayama on sharpening leadership skills. He has also interacted with the participants and resolved their queries on leadership and life skills.

There were various sessions on pillars and foundations of quality education, exploring modes of personality and leadership styles using the D.I.S.Cassessment tool, change management, engaging stakeholders in managing change, using of stakeholder engagement matrix, personal communication skills and teamwork, various learning styles, time management, and conflict management. All the sessions were based on practical applications, interactive, activity-based and participatory.

Mr. Atul Shah and the team from GITS, Goa conducted sessions on leadership through an interesting set of leadership games. Through the participatory game-based techniques, they inculcated the attributes of empathy, cohesive team player, trust-building, helping each other in the group, etc.

In the valedictory session, Dr. P A Kushalappa, Director, Academics, JSSAHER congratulated the participants for opting to take part in the conclave and wished them the best for their future. Dr. H Basavanagowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College urged the participants to utilize the learning from this conclave in their day to day practice and emerge as efficient leaders. Lead resource faculty, Mike Rouse and Arijana have expressed their satisfaction with the enthusiasm and level of participation of participants in the conclave and wished the aspiring leaders the best for their future.

Totally 78 participants across various spectrum of education under JSS Mahavidyapeethalike, general education, engineering, speech and hearing, nursing, physiotherapy, Ayurveda, Medical, Dental, and Pharmacy education have participated and benefited from the workshop.
