
Vijnana Bhavan, University of Mysuru, hosted the observance of the International Day of Democracy 2026 on 6 October 2026, organised by GRAAM (Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement), in association with the Department of Studies in Social Work, Manasagangotri, and Hanns Seidel Foundation. Street Play Competition – “Democracy Begins With Us” Two teams from the School of Public Health — Team Janawaaz (10 members) and Team Thratru (10 members) — participated in the street play competition. Through creative performances, students portrayed issues related to democracy, human rights, equality and social responsibility. Poster Presentation – “Democracy in Action: Key Initiatives for a Sustainable City” 13 participants presented posters focusing on public participation, environmental responsibility and collective action for sustainable urban development. Dr. Rakshitha, 1st Semester MPH, secured 2nd place in the competition. Panel Discussion – “The Future of Democracy: Challenges, Opportunities and the Role of Young Citizens” The panel featured Prof. Narayan Shastry, Dr. S. Nataraju and Dr. Basavaraju R. Shrestha, Executive Director, GRAAM. The discussion explored contemporary challenges to democracy, emerging opportunities and the important role of young citizens in promoting responsible participation, dialogue and human rights. The programme provided a meaningful platform for learning, creativity, dialogue and civic participation
