It was a distinct privilege and pleasure to welcome Mr. Hemant Patel, Past President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPS) and Past Member of the English Pharmacy Board, RPS, London, Great Britain, to SS College of Pharmacy, Ooty from 5–7 September 2026
Mr. Patel’s visit was particularly significant as it represents a nearly three-decade-long association built on professional friendship, mentorship, academic collaboration, and a shared commitment to advancing pharmacy practice education and professional development.
Over the years, this enduring international association has provided valuable opportunities for academic exchange, professional learning, mentorship, and exposure to global perspectives in pharmacy practice. It stands as an example of how sustained professional relationships can evolve into meaningful institutional partnerships that continue to benefit successive generations of pharmacy students and faculty.
During his visit, Mr. Patel engaged with the academic leadership, Heads of Departments, faculty members, Pharm D and M Pharm (Pharmacy Practice) students, and research scholars. The interactions provided an excellent platform to exchange perspectives on contemporary pharmacy education and practice and to explore opportunities for further strengthening international academic and professional collaboration.
A major highlight of the visit was his thought-provoking lecture, “Lessons in Leadership, Practice and Service,” delivered for our Pharm D and M Pharm (Pharmacy Practice) students. Drawing upon his distinguished professional journey and leadership experience, Mr. Patel shared valuable insights into professional leadership, service, accountability, and the evolving role of pharmacists in healthcare. His perspectives on the contribution of pharmacists to geriatric care and pain management were particularly relevant and enriching for our students.
We deeply value this three-decade international association and look forward to building upon this strong foundation through new opportunities for global academic collaboration, professional exchange, student and faculty engagement, and advancement of pharmacy practice
