World Breastfeeding week - 2026

The Department of Pediatrics, JSS Medical College, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, in association with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), Mysuru, Mysore Obstetrics and Gynecology Society (MOGS), and Inner Wheel Club, Mysuru Gold, inaugurated World Breastfeeding Week 2026 on 1st August 2026 at the Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital, Mysuru. The program centered around this year's global theme: 'Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.' The event was graced by Dr. Umadevi S.P., renowned litterateur and retired Associate Professor, JSS College for Women, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished dignitaries including Dr. Madhu C.P., Director, JSS Hospital, Dr. Narayanappa D., Principal, JSS Medical College, Dr. Srinivasa Murthy D., Professor & Head, Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Mamatha, HOD, Dept of OBG, along with Dr.Shivu P, President IAP Mysuru, Dr.Sonia Madappa, President Mysuru Obstetric & Gynaecology Society, Dr. Anshu Agrawal, President, Inner Wheel Club,Mysuru Gold and the nursing fraternity attended the programme. The speakers highlighted the unparalleled health, nutritional, emotional, and developmental benefits of breastfeeding for infants while emphasizing its positive impact on maternal health. They also stressed the importance of creating a supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers through families, healthcare institutions, workplaces, and the community. A special session showcased the initiatives of the Human Milk Bank at JSS Hospital, underscoring its vital role in providing safe donor human milk to vulnerable newborns. The programme also recognized and felicitated a dedicated human milk donor for her selfless contribution towards saving and improving the lives of newborns. JSS Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to promoting breastfeeding awareness, supporting mothers through evidence-based care, and strengthening initiatives that contribute to healthier mothers, healthier babies, and a healthier society
