A webinar titled “Biofilm Biology & AMR: Challenges, Innovations & the Path Ahead” was successfully conducted on Wednesday, 26 November 2025 (03:00 PM – 05:00 PM) in commemoration of Biofilm Week and World Antimicrobial Awareness Week. The event was organized by the Special Interest Group (SIG) on Biofilms in Clinical Settings & their Control, with the objective of highlighting emerging challenges and innovative strategies to combat biofilm-associated antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The webinar featured two invited expert talks. Dr. Chetana Baliga (DBT–Ramalingaswami Fellow and Faculty, Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Life and Allied Health Sciences, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bangalore) delivered an insightful lecture on “Antimicrobial Peptides as Future Antibiotics: Structure–Function Studies and Rational Re- engineering.” Her talk emphasized the potential of antimicrobial peptides as next-generation therapeutics, focusing on structure–function relationships and rational design approaches to overcome resistance. The talk, “QS Interference in Aquaculture Pathogens,” was presented by Dr. Pande Gde Sasmita (Associate Professor, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Udayana University, Bali, Indonesia). He discussed quorum sensing (QS) mechanisms in aquaculture pathogens and highlighted QS interference as a promising anti- virulence strategy to control biofilm formation and reduce antibiotic dependence. The webinar concluded with an engaging discussion session, reinforcing the importance of interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to address biofilm-related AMR across clinical and environmental sectors.
