
The Department of Microbiology, School of Life Sciences, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru, in association with the Microbiology Club, successfully organized a One Day Symposium on “Gut Microbiome, Antimicrobials and Health & Pathways for Academic Success and Career Opportunities” on 22 April 2026. The program, organized by Dr. Nagalambika Prasad, Associate Professor and Organizing Secretary, aimed to create awareness on the significance of the gut microbiome, the discovery of novel antimicrobials, and their role in human health, while also guiding students on academic growth and career opportunities. The symposium commenced with a welcome address and was conducted under the divine blessings of Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. The symposium featured insightful sessions by distinguished experts. Prof. Bruce Hamaker, Director, Whistler Center for Carbohydrate Research, Purdue University, delivered an engaging talk on the role of dietary carbohydrates and the gut microbiome, highlighting precision nutrition and its global relevance. Dr. Prakash M. Halami, Chief Scientist and Head, Department of Microbiology and Fermentation Technology, CSIR-CFTRI, presented on antimicrobial research, emphasizing the need for novel antimicrobials and addressing antimicrobial resistance. The afternoon session by H. V. Vishvesh, Founder and Director, Arivu Skill Academy, focused on academic success and career opportunities, guiding students on skill development, higher education pathways, and competitive examinations. The symposium witnessed active participation of 350 participants, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members. It provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, interaction with experts, and understanding current research trends. The event significantly enhanced participants’ awareness of microbiological advancements and offered meaningful guidance for academic and professional development.
