Field visit to Sewage Treatment Plant, Vidyaranyapuram

School of Public Health organized and conducted a field visit on 25th June 2026, to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Vidyaranyapuram, Mysuru, to gain practical insights into wastewater treatment and its role in protecting environmental and public health. The field visit provided students with first-hand exposure to the various stages of sewage treatment, including screening, grit removal, primary and secondary treatment, biological processes, sludge management, and the safe discharge and reuse of treated wastewater. Students also learned about wastewater quality monitoring, pollution control measures, and the importance of sewage treatment in preventing environmental contamination and waterborne diseases. This experiential learning opportunity strengthened students' understanding of the interrelationship between environmental sanitation, wastewater management, sustainable urban infrastructure, and public health. By observing real-world operations, students were able to appreciate the vital role of sewage treatment plants in promoting cleaner ecosystems, conserving water resources, and contributing to healthier communities.
