Field visit to Water treatment plant

Thumb

School of Public Health organized field visit to the Ramanahalli Water Treatment Plant on 23rd June 2026 to gain first-hand exposure to the processes involved in ensuring a safe and sustainable public water supply. The visit provided practical insights into the complete water treatment process—from raw water intake, aeration, flocculation, sedimentation, rapid sand filtration, chlorination, and residual chlorine testing to laboratory-based water quality monitoring and distribution systems. Students also observed the operation of venturimeters, backwashing units, and filter control mechanisms that are essential for efficient water treatment. This field-based learning experience strengthened students' understanding of water quality surveillance, environmental health, and the critical role of safe drinking water in preventing waterborne diseases and protecting community health. Such experiential visits bridge classroom learning with real-world public health practice, preparing future professionals to address environmental and public health challenges.
