NSS Awareness Program on Food Safety, Tuberculosis, and Hygiene Promotion by the Department of Microbiology 2025

The Department of Microbiology, School of Life Sciences, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, organized an NSS extension activity on 6th March 2025 at Koodanahalli village, Mysore District. The awareness program focused on food safety, tuberculosis (TB), and hygiene promotion among government school students and local residents. The initiative aimed to educate participants about food spoilage, preservation techniques, TB prevention, and the importance of maintaining personal hygiene for a healthy lifestyle. Faculty members and NSS volunteers actively participated in conducting awareness sessions and demonstrations to create better public health awareness. During the program, students were engaged through interactive learning activities, including hand hygiene awareness sessions conducted in the regional language. The Department of Microbiology also organized microscope-based demonstrations to help students understand microorganisms and their role in food contamination and diseases. Samples showing fungal growth and contaminated water were displayed to provide practical knowledge about hygiene and sanitation. The program was successful in improving awareness among government school children regarding food safety, tuberculosis prevention, and healthy hygienic practices.
