
The Division of Geoinformatics, School of Life Sciences, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru, successfully conducted a Value Added Course (VAC) on “Applied GPS and Mobile Data Collection Techniques” from 18–23 May 2026. The programme provided hands-on training in GPS, mobile GIS, KoboToolbox, Google Earth Pro, and QGIS for geospatial data collection, management, and visualization. Participants gained practical experience in GPS-based field surveys, mobile data collection, georeferencing, digitization, thematic mapping, hotspot analysis, and spatial data integration. The course combined classroom instruction, laboratory exercises, and field-based activities to enhance students’ geospatial and digital survey skills. The programme concluded with theory and practical examinations, and participant feedback indicated a high level of satisfaction with the course content, practical sessions, and overall learning experience. The initiative significantly contributed to skill development and interdisciplinary learning in the field of geospatial technologies.
