The Department of Community Medicine, JSS Urban Health Centre, JSS Medical College, JSS AHER, Mysuru, conducted a general health camp on the occasion of World Health Day 2026 on 12th April 2026 at the Government Teacher Training Centre for Blind and Hearing Impairment, Tilak Nagar, Mysuru.
The health camp was inaugurated by Dr. Suma M.N, Vice Principal (Pre & Para Clinical), JSS Medical College; Dr. Madhu B., Professor & Head, Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College; Mr. Murali, Teacher and Supervisor of the Training Centre for Hearing Impairment; Mrs. Asha, Coordinator, Department of Visual Impairment; Dr. Amoghashree, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College; and Dr. H. V. Rama, Lady Medical Officer, JSS Urban Health Centre, Mysuru.
Dr. Suma M.N addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of regular health screening among teachers and its role in ensuring a healthy learning environment for children. Dr. Madhu B. spoke on the significance of World Health Day and highlighted this year’s theme, “Together for Health: Stand with Science,” stressing the importance of maintaining good health among teachers. Dr. H. V. Rama highlighted that knowledgeable and healthy teachers can effectively guide children towards better health, contributing to a healthier nation. Mr. Murali and Mrs. Asha expressed their gratitude to JSS Medical College for organizing the health check-up for the teacher trainees with visual and hearing impairments.
A total of 55 teacher trainees were screened for blood grouping, blood pressure, anemia, oral health, obesity, and underwent general health check-ups. Participants were educated on the importance of regular health check-ups and early disease screening. Necessary medications were dispensed to anemic individuals. Examinations and consultations were provided by faculty, postgraduates, and interns from the Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College, along with interns and postgraduates from the Departments of Ophthalmology, JSS Hospital, and Public Health Dentistry, JSS Dental College, Mysuru.
Out of the 55 individuals screened, 35 were found to be anemic, 5 were hypertensive, 21 were pre-hypertensive, 11 were overweight, and 19 were obese.
