Thumb

The 4th public health series lecture was organized by The Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College on 17/03/2026 for Phase III MBBS Part I students between 3 to 5pm, during which Dr Sudhir Nayak, Surveillance Medical Officer WHO-NPSN Mysuru unit, delivered a lecture on the topic of “MR Vaccination and Challenges”. The event was coordinated by Dr Smitha MC, Associate Professor, Dept of Community Medicine.

During the talk Dr. Sudhir Nayak highlighted the impact of measles in India and Karnataka, emphasizing the severity and public health significance of measles and rubella. The session on MR vaccination highlighted the continued public health importance of measles and rubella, especially among children, and emphasized that despite significant progress in immunization coverage, challenges such as vaccine hesitancy, migrant populations, and gaps between first and second doses persist. The lecture reinforced that achieving elimination requires not only high vaccination coverage (>95%) but also strong surveillance systems, timely outbreak response, and active involvement of healthcare professionals in counseling, reporting, and community awareness. Overall, the 4th public health lecture series helped students understand the public health aspects of MR vaccination and its implementation challenges.
