VGST-aculty Development Program (FDP) on Geospatial Technologies for Healthcare & Public Health Management

With Divine Blessings of His Holiness Swamiji, Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru, under the leadership of Dr. Madhu B., Organising Secretary and Professor & Head, successfully conducted the VGST–Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Geospatial Technologies for Healthcare & Public Health Management” from 3–6 March 2026, in collaboration with Division of Geoinformatics, School of Life Sciences, JSS AHER. The program was supported by Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS) under Vision Group on Science & Technology (VGST), Department of Electronics, IT, Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka. FDP was inaugurated by Mukund Rao K Rao, Former ISRO Scientist and Secretary, Karnataka Jnana Aayoga, who highlighted the role of Artificial Intelligence and geospatial tools in strengthening healthcare delivery. Dr P. C. Kumaraswamy, District Health Officer, Mysuru, the Guest of Honour, emphasised the importance of technology in monitoring morbidity, mortality, and health system performance. The inaugural function was presided over by Dr. H. Basavanagowdappa, Vice-Chancellor, JSS AHER, in the presence of Dr. Narayanappa D., Principal, JSS Medical College. Other dignitaries included Dr. Suma M. N., Vice Principal (Pre & Para Clinical); Dr. Raveesha K. A., Dean & Head, School of Life Sciences; Dr. Sunil Kumar D., Professor; and Sri Satish Chandra S. R., Administrative Officer, JSS Medical College. Program had 53 participants, including faculty, public health professionals, researchers, government officials, and postgraduate trainees from Karnataka and other states. Four-day FDP provided training and hands-on exposure to GIS, Remote Sensing, and spatial data analysis for healthcare applications. Participants also visited KSRSAC Regional Centre, Mysuru to understand geospatial data generation and its applications in health research. Valedictory function was graced by Dr. Prashanthi Devi M., Professor & Head, Department of Environmental Sciences and Management, Bharathidasan University, Tamil Nadu, as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Dr. Vishal Kumar Gupta, Dean (Academics), JSS AHER; Dr.Suma MN, Vice Principal, JSS Medical College; Dr. Sawant Sushant A., Associate Professor and Coordinator, Division of Geoinformatics; and Dr. Manjunatha M. C., Assistant Professor, DBT-BUILDER. FDP served as a platform for capacity building, and advancing geospatial applications in epidemiology, healthcare planning, and public health management.
