The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology is pleased to share the successful completion of a 15-day international observership from 04/02/2026 to 22/02/2026, by the second-year postgraduates, Dr. Thilfin Alfret H, Dr. Yellavadhayala Madhav Lakshmi, and Dr. Deepti A, at the Division of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, University of Cape Town, South Africa, under the supervision of Dr. Iekram Hoosen Alli, 1991 batch undergraduate alumnus of JSS Medical College. This observership also reflects the strengthening of alumni engagement and international academic collaboration fostered by the institution. The observership provided valuable hands-on exposure to medico-legal autopsies, including firearm-related deaths, forensic ballistics, gunshot wound interpretation, postmortem report writing, case presentations, and evidence handling at the South African Police Service Forensic Ballistics Laboratory. Training also included specimen collection, toxicology awareness, and maintenance of forensic case logbooks.
