Guest Lecture on Sources of Health Data in the Public Domain

Thumb

The School of Public Health organized a guest lecture on “Sources of Health Data in the Public Domain” for the 1st and 3rd Semester MPH students on 20 December 2025, conducted in virtual mode. The session was delivered by Dr Jyothi S Hallad, Director & Professor, Population Research Centre, JSS Institute of Economic Research. The lecture provided comprehensive insights into major public health data sources such as the Census, Civil Registration System (CRS), Sample Registration System (SRS), Health Management Information System (HMIS), and key Demographic and Health Surveys including NFHS, DLHS, LASI, and NSS. During the interactive Q&A session, students raised queries related to secondary data analysis, research publication opportunities, and the use of publicly available datasets. The speaker encouraged students to undertake secondary data–based research and shared relevant links to authentic health data sources available in the public domain. Discussions also included internship opportunities at the Population Research Centre, Dharwad, with the potential for future collaboration through an institutional Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The session significantly enhanced students’ understanding of health information systems and strengthened their capacity to use real-world data for public health research and policy analysis.
