Thumb

The Division of Geoinformatics, School of Life Sciences, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysuru, celebrated GIS Day 2025 on 25 November 2025 under the theme “GeoVision 2025: Where Spatial Meets Everything.” The event highlighted the expanding interdisciplinary role of GIS and emphasized its integration with artificial intelligence, data analytics, and decision-support systems. It aimed to strengthen geospatial competencies among students and demonstrate the real-world relevance of spatial technologies in addressing contemporary environmental and societal challenges. Nearly 100 students participated in four structured events designed to promote technical engagement and creative exploration. The Map Art Manifesto encouraged thematic poster creation, while the Geospatial Quiz assessed knowledge of GIS concepts, spatial analysis, and remote sensing. The Geocache Hunt, featuring the storyline “The Lost Map of the Geographers,” enabled teams to apply coordinate decoding, navigation skills, and map interpretation in a campus-based exploration challenge. The GeoPaint competition combined artistic expression with geospatial imagination under the themes Digital Mapping and Map My Face. Winners were identified for each event and awarded certificates and cash prizes. Overall, GIS Day 2025 successfully promoted spatial thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and student engagement, reinforcing the academic and practical importance of geospatial technologies.
