World Heart Day

World Heart Day was observed on 29th September 2025 at 11:00 am in the JSS Urban Health Centre, Mysuru. The event was organised by Department of Community Medicine in coordination with Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Gyanjyoti Trust, Mysuru to raise awareness about cardiovascular health and the importance of adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle. The program was graced by distinguished guests including Dr. Prasad (Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine), Dr. Amoghashree (Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine and Coordinator of UHC), Dr. Jayadev (Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy), Dr. Rakshit (Lecturer of Clinical Pharmacy), Dr. Akruti Dash (1st year Postgraduate, Department of Community Medicine), and Shri Madhu (Coordinator, Gyanjyoti Trust, Mysuru). Students from the Pharmacy College actively participated, and the audience comprised 20 women from the local community.

The event commenced with insightful sessions delivered by the guest speakers. Dr. Prasad provided an overview of cardiovascular diseases, explaining their underlying pathophysiology and common risk factors. His talk emphasized how conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and lifestyle-related habits contribute significantly to the growing burden of heart disease. Following this, Dr. Amoghashree highlighted preventive strategies, underscoring the role of balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, stress reduction, and the avoidance of harmful habits like smoking and alcohol consumption. Adding a clinical perspective, Dr. Jayadev discussed the pharmacological management of heart disease. He explained the availability and rational use of medications such as antihypertensives, lipid-lowering agents, and antiplatelet drugs, stressing adherence to prescribed therapies to prevent complications. His talk bridged the gap between community-level prevention and clinical management, helping participants understand the continuum of cardiac care. Alongside the scientific sessions, the smooth conduct of the program was ensured by the support team. The event was anchored by Mr. Santhosh H. B. (Health Inspector), while the welcome address was delivered by Mr. Mallikarjunaswamy (Medico-Social Worker). The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Sunil Y. S. (Health Inspector), acknowledging the efforts of all speakers, organizers, and participants for making the program successful. Their contributions added to the overall warmth and community spirit of the occasion.

The program concluded with an interactive session where participants clarified their doubts and shared their views. The presence of pharmacy students added to the learning experience, as they assisted in engaging discussions with the community women. Overall, the World Heart Day event successfully blended scientific insights with practical advice, motivating participants to take proactive steps towards protecting their heart health.
