The TEDx event, themed “The Ripple Effect,” was held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS Medical College, Mysuru. This event convened leaders, innovators, and change-makers to share their insights on the profound and often imperceptible consequences of our actions. The concept of the “Ripple Effect” elucidates how a single action can catalyze a chain of events, profoundly impacting individuals and circumstances in far-reaching manners. The event commenced with an inspiring inaugural ceremony at 10:00 AM on November 23, 2024. The ceremony began with an invocation delivered by Manasvini, a Phase II MBBS student. This was followed by a heartfelt welcome address delivered by Sana Singh, the Organizer and Licensee of TEDxJSSMC. The event was formally inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The esteemed guest of honor for the event, Dr. H. Basavangowdappa, Vice Chancellor of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSSAHER), delivered the inaugural speech. He underscored the paramount importance of hosting such events within the college to cultivate a culture of knowledge sharing and intellectual development. Dr. B. Suresh, Pro-Chancellor of JSSAHER, attended as the Chief Guest and emphasized the significance of research and innovation in shaping the future. He highlighted the transformative role of TEDx as a platform to facilitate profound discussions and generate ideas that can influence both local and global communities. The inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. M. Kishor, Faculty Coordinator of TEDxJSSMC. The core of the event was the series of engaging talks delivered by an outstanding lineup of speakers who are experts in their respective fields. Each speaker explored different facets of the Ripple Effect, offering unique perspectives on how seemingly small actions can spark profound changes. 1. Dr. Pratima Murthy, Director of NIMHANS, emphasized the pivotal role of mental health in fostering societal well-being. She underscored the profound impact of mental health awareness and care in mitigating stigma and enhancing the quality of life. 2. Dr. B. Suresh, Pro-Chancellor of JSSAHER, shared his insights on pharmacy education and the evolving healthcare standards in India. He demonstrated how educational reforms and innovations have far-reaching implications for public health. 3. Dr. D. N. Rao, a distinguished scientist and professor at IISc, presented groundbreaking research in biochemistry and molecular biology. He elucidated the cascading effects of scientific discoveries on society and the environment. 4. Dr. Suhel Quader, an evolutionary biologist and ornithologist, discussed the critical role of citizen science in biodiversity conservation. She emphasized the transformative potential of collective action in triggering substantial environmental transformations. 5. Mr. M. R. Ananth Kumar, a social activist and founder of Kaliyuva Mane, shared his experiences implementing innovative education models for marginalized children. He underscored the transformative potential of such models in shaping the futures of these individuals and, consequently, society as a whole. 6. Dr. Usha Hegde, a medical professional, endurance athlete, and Everest summiteer, inspired the audience with her personal narrative of resilience and advocacy. She highlighted the transformative power of determination in overcoming obstacles. 7. Mrs. Madhavi Menon, a Mysore-based artist, captivated the audience with her performances as an actor, dancer, vocalist, and storyteller. She illustrated how art and culture profoundly shape the social fabric and influence individuals. 8. Dr. Mysore Manjunath, a renowned violinist, bridged the gap between Carnatic classical and global music traditions. He demonstrated how music transcends cultural boundaries and resonates with diverse audiences. 9. Dr. Harshita Umesh, founder of Vaada, a passionate advocate for mental health, sexual and reproductive health rights, and climate change, discussed the interconnectedness of these global issues and the ripple effects of advocating for positive change. 10. Ms. Srina Bose, a youth activist and founder of The Teenage Lens and Yuvacracy, empowered the youth to engage in civic participation and political activism, showcasing how young voices can influence societal change. The TEDx event at JSS Medical College, Mysuru, was an inspiring and thought-provoking day, with each speaker contributing to the theme of “The Ripple Effect” in their unique manner. The event not only facilitated the sharing of innovative ideas and research but also emphasized the power of individual actions in shaping larger societal outcomes. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Pratham Mehta, Chief of Productions, TEDx JSSMC, as an appreciation of the speakers’ contributions and gratitude to the speakers, guests, and audience for their participation and support in making the event a success. The event was declared close by Dr. Arun M, Faculty Coordinator, TEDx JSSMC. This TEDx event served as a reminder of the interconnectedness of our actions and the profound impact they can have on both local and global communities, igniting conversations that will continue long after the event’s conclusion.
