Training every upcoming doctor in suicide risk assessment and prevention is one of the goals of National Medical Commission ( NMC) In the draft of new National Medical Commission- CBME for UGs-Suicide Risk Assessment is being implemented as Certifiable skill. Hence it will be mandatory for all medical graduates to be trained in Suicide Risk Assessment. In relation to this issue, for last few years we have been working with SAFL App, that is available now in all android smartphones & it is free. Using SAFL App to train the medical graduates in 40-60 minutes workshops has been tried in Online and Offline platforms. The findings are very encouraging. As part of World Health Organisation and International Association for Suicide Prevention, annual campaign to mark 10th September as World Suicide Prevention Day, JSS Medical College, MINDS Sapiens club conducted suicide risk assessment and prevention workshop for enthusiastic students of JSSAHER in association with Center for Health Information, Psychiatry4u, Minds United for Health Sciences & Humanity Trust, & Infosys Foundation. Aditya Rao, president of the club invited the participants, Dr M Kishor MBBS MD, Prof & Head of Department of Psychiatry, JSSMC , welcomed the chief guest Dr H Basavangowdappa, Principal, JSSMC. The chief guest gave a call, that this unique club, should be model for rest of India and club should come out with activities that help students & community to identify common mental health conditions such as depression, substance use disorders.
