I was invited as a Guest speaker for the Continuing Dental Education program by IDA, Mysuru Branch on 12th July 2024 at Hotel President, Mysuru. The topic for the presentation was “Early diagnosis and management of periodontal disease”. The lecture highlighted the importance of early detection by emphasizing the prevalence rate, the systemic link and the psychosocial impact the disease has on the population. The session emphasized the early diagnosis through clinical evaluations such as checking for gingival inflammation, bleeding on probing, probing depth and attachment loss. Management strategies discussed included non-surgical methods like scaling and root planing along with surgical options such as flap surgery and bone grafts. Preventive measures, including proper oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups, and lifestyle changes like smoking cessation, were also underscored. The session concluded with the importance of timely intervention to improve patient outcomes and maintain periodontal health.
