Field visit to Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) office in Mysuru

Students from the School of Public Health visited the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) office in Mysuru on July 23, 2024, . The primary objective of this visit was to gain practical insights into disease surveillance, with a specific focus on both communicable and non-communicable diseases. During their visit, the students had the opportunity to interact with key personnel at the IDSP office. Dr. Archana, the District Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Coordinator, provided valuable information about various national health programs currently being implemented under IDSP. These programs included the National Programme for Non-Communicable Diseases (NPNCD) and integrated initiatives within the NCD division. Dr. Kavitha, the District Epidemiologist, explained surveillance methods, emphasizing the importance of timely data collection, analysis, and interpretation to identify disease trends. Mr. Navidullah Sharif, the Social Worker responsible for the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), shared insights into measures aimed at identifying and rehabilitating tobacco addiction cases. The NTCP focuses on awareness campaigns, policy enforcement, and community engagement to reduce tobacco consumption and promote healthier lifestyles. The IDSP team patiently addressed the students’ queries related to program implementation processes and evaluation of national initiatives. The field visit provided valuable practical knowledge, enhancing the students’ understanding of disease surveillance and public health measures.
