Seminar on Optimizing Performance The Role of Sports Nutrition and Kinanthropometry

On May 20, 2024, an insightful talk series was organised in which Ms. Harshavardhini, a Sports & Performance Nutritionist, ISAK Level 1 Kinanthropometrist, and Certified Diabetes Educator from Bengaluru, opened the session with an engaging presentation on the critical role of nutrition in enhancing athletic performance. She emphasized the importance of a balanced diet tailored to athletes' specific needs, highlighting key nutrients such as carbohydrates for energy, proteins for muscle repair, and fats for sustained energy release, as well as the timing of nutrient intake for optimal performance and recovery. Dr. Chetana Ramakrishna, Principal Technical Officer at the Dept of Traditional Foods & Applied Nutrition, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, followed with an informative talk on functional foods like chia seeds, quinoa, and beetroot juice, detailing their benefits in enhancing endurance, improving recovery times, and boosting overall athletic performance. Ms. Telin Mahima, a Sports Nutritionist and Holistic Lifestyle Coach from Bengaluru, concluded the seminar by sharing her journey as an aspiring sports nutritionist, discussing the challenges and rewards of the career, the importance of staying updated with the latest research, and the development of personalized nutrition plans for athletes. The program was well-received, with active student participation in lively Q&A sessions following each talk, providing valuable insights and practical strategies to support athletes through nutrition.
