Awareness to New Criminal Law - 08-07-2024

The awareness programme on new criminal law was successfully conducted by Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, JSS Medical College, Mysuru in collaboration with Karnataka Police Academy, Mysuru on 08.07.2024 between 3.30 PM to 5.00 PM. The event was organized with the objective of enlightening participants about the latest developments in criminal law and their practical implications for law enforcement and related fields. Sri Alok Kumar IPS, ADGP Training, Bengaluru was the chief guest and resource person for the said event. The event was attended by top brass officers including Dr.M.B.Boralingaiah, IPS, DIGP Southern Range, Sri Dekka Kishore Babu, IPS, SP and Principal, Police Training College, Kalaburagi, Smt.Geetha M.S., IPS, Director, Karnataka Police Academy, Mysuru, Sri Channabasavanna Langoti, IPS, Deputy Director, Karnataka Police Academy, Mysuru and faculty of Karnataka Police Academy, Mysuru. Dr.H.Basavana Gowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College, Mysuru was the guest of honour. The event was graced by the presence of other administrative heads of JSS Medical College, including Dr.Suma M.N., Vice Principal (Pre-Clinical), Dr.Praveen Kulkarni, Vice Principal (Para-Clinical), and Mr.S.R.Satish Chandra, Administrative Officer, JSS Medical College, Mysuru. The programme commenced with an invocation led by Ms. Preksha Poovamma, Sixth Semester Student, BSc Forensic Science followed by welcome address delivered by Dr Chandrakanth HV, Professor and Head, Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, who highlighted the importance of understanding new criminal laws and the interdisciplinary collaboration required to implement them effectively. Dr.G.B.Aravind, Co-Ordinator of Forensic Science Programme, Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, introduced the chief guest, Sri Alok Kumar IPS, ADGP Training, Bengaluru to the august gathering, followed by the felicitation of the chief guest, by the dignitaries on the dais. The Chief Guest, Sri Alok Kumar IPS, ADGP Training, Bengaluru, delivered the keynote address. He gave an overview of changes in the new legal framework and highlighted the key changes in law as applicable to medical practice. His speech provided valuable insights into the practical challenges and solutions related to the new criminal laws. Key note address was followed by a sessions on Medicolegal aspects as applicable to new criminal law by Sri Guruswamy, Law Officer, Karnataka Police Academy Mysuru and Sri M.H.Khan, DySP, Assistant Director, Karnataka Police Academy Mysuru. The programme was attended by SPs and Principals of police training units from across Karnataka, staff, and students of JSS Medical College. Their active participation and engagement in the discussions contributed to the overall success of the event. The event received significant media attention, with members of the press covering the proceedings. This coverage helped in raising public awareness about the importance of understanding and implementing new criminal laws. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr.Smitha Rani, Associate Professor, Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, organizing committee members, and volunteers for their contributions to the success of the event. Dr.Atma Bevin, Postgraduate, Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology was the Master of Ceremony.
