The department of General Medicine, JSS Medical College & Hospital in association with JSS Skill & Simulation Centre, JSS AHER conducted one day “Simulation Based Hands – On Workshop” on Medical Emergencies on 8th June 2024 for medical Interns. It was an unique and a value added programme. Nearly 20 medical interns participated from JSS Medical College and from other Medical Colleges. Simulation scenarios included Diabetic Ketoacidosis Acute Severe Asthma, Acute Coronary Syndrome, Organophosphorus compound poisoning and different types of shock. Students learnt to handle these medical emergencies and it instilled confidence in them to handle the cases independently. Dr.Tandure Varsha, Dr.Nandini.K were the facilitators for simulation scenarios from medicine department. Dr.Archana.S was the facilitator from JSS skill and simulation centre. Students learnt to diagnose the condition, send appropriate investigations, calculate correct doses and administer them properly. They learnt to monitor the patients in different scenarios. Students were happy to experience such an unique method of teaching and practice and enjoyed the learning experience. Students learnt how to work as a team in emergency situations and improve the survival of the patients. Hence forth it is planned to conduct such workshops regularly.
