On the eve of World No Tobacco Day, a National Workshop in hybrid mode was conducted on 30.5.2024 titled ‘TOBACCO FREE LIFE: HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS’ VITAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES’ by Tobacco Control and Cessation Centre (TCC), Department of Public Health Dentistry and Oral Medicine and Radiology, JSS Dental College & Hospital, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research.

The Chief Guest was Dr. Surinder Singh, Vice Chancellor, JSSAHER and the Guests of Honour were Dr. Dhakshaini M.R, Principal, JSS Dental College & Hospital, Dr. Aruna D.S, Dental Health Public Consultant, Tobacco Cessation Specialist, Bengaluru, Dr. Rajeshwari G Annigeri, Professor & HOD, Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, College of Dental Sciences, Davangere, Dr. Vikrant Ranjan Mohanty, Principal Co-ordinator & Project Head, National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation (NRC-OH-TC).

The Organizing Chairman for this programme was Dr. Karthikeya Patil, Tobacco Control & Cessation Centre (TCC), Professor & HOD, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology and the Organizing Secretary was Dr. Maurya Manjunath, Co-ordinator, TCC, Department of Public Health Dentistry. The Advisors were Dr Jaishankar HP, Vice Principal and Dr. Thippeswamy H M, HOD, Department of Public Health Dentistry.

The Workshop concentrated on Understanding fundamentals of tobacco and its dependence, Novel approach of the National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences- A Virtual Trip (Online) and Role of Healthcare Professionals in tobacco control by the Guest Speakers. 215 participants which included Faculty members, Post-graduates, House Surgeons, Students of Medical, Dental and Allied Sciences fraternity across the country registered for this workshop.
