World Maternal Mental Health Day - 08-05-2024

World Maternal Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on May First Week to raise awareness around Maternal Mental Health Conditions during Pregnancy & post childbirth. Throughout the history mothers have been revered as the pillars of strength, caregivers and nurturers. However, behind the veil of strength, Depression affects 10% of women in postpartum period, many psychiatric disorders emerge or re-occur during pregnancy and post pregnancy. This adversely affects newborns, the mother & her family. There is need for more awareness and collaboration across specialties. Hence World Maternal mental health day was observed on 08.05.2024 by Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at JSS Hospital. The occasion was graced by JSSMC Principal Dr.H.Basavana Gowdappa who called for greater cooperation between departments. JSS Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr.C.P.Madhu emphasised low cost charges offered for Hospital Services, Vice principal Dr.Manthappa appreciated the initiative. Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry Dr.M.Kishor pledged for more collaborative resources. Professor & Head, Department of OBG Dr.Mamatha S. emphasised continued care. Overview of Women Mental Health and Maternal Mental Health status in India was presented by Dr.Priyankha, Dr.Venkatesh, PG Residents, Dept. of Psychiatry, JSSMC. Awareness Talk for women in perinatal period at JSS Hospital was given by Dr.Megha Sadashiv, Senior Resident, Dept. of Psychiatry, JSSMC. Dr.Shalaka Atre did the comparing and Dr.Vikrant Arora gave vote of thanks.
