One-day CME program on Unlocking Precision Medicine: Exploring the Clinical Utility of LC-MS/MS in Diagnosis and Treatment - 08-05-2024

The Department of Biochemistry and the Department of Medical Genetics, JSS Medical College & Hospital, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER) conducted one-day CME program on “Unlocking Precision Medicine: Exploring the Clinical Utility of LC-MS/MS in Diagnosis and Treatment”, on 8th May 2024 at Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital, MG Road, Mysuru and Hands-on workshop on Expanded newborn screening using LS-MS/MS at the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory, JSS Hospital on 9th May 2024. Around 150-200 delegates registered for the CME and 15 delegates registered for the workshop including faculty, research scholars and undergraduate and postgraduate students of various institutions. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Manjunatha B, Registrar, JSS AHER who was the chief guest for the event. Dr. Prashant Vishwanat, Dean Research, JSS AHER; Dr. G.V. Manjunath, Deputy Director Diagnostics, JSS Hospital; Dr. Suma M.N. Vice Principal, JSS Medical College and Mr.Sathish Chandra, Administrative Officer, JSS Medical College were the guest of honors. Dr.Akila Prashant, Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry and Convener, Department of Medical Genetics and the organizing chairman of the event welcomed the gathering. All the dignitaries wished the program a grand success. This one-day CME was aimed at introducing the delegates to basics of LC-MS/MS technology and its clinical applications. Experts from various parts of the country participated and shared their experiences with the delegates along with the latest updates on this emerging technology. Mr. Kankan Jana, Sciex LCMS/MS Analyst; Prof. Kanury V.S. Rao, PhD, Co-Founder & CEO Pred Omix Health Sciences Pte. Ltd. Singapore; Dr. Swetha V (Biochemist - Lab Operations -Bangalore Reference Lab), Dr Lal PathLabs Ltd, Bengaluru; Dr Alpa J Dherai, Consultant, Clinical Chemistry & Immunology, P.D.Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai; Prof. Utpal Tatu, Chairman, Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru; Dr. Deepa Bhat, Genetic Counsellor, JSS Hospital, Mysuru; Mr. Sarthak Gupta, Product Marketing Manager LCMS/Small Molecules – Thermo Fisher Scientific were the esteemed speakers for the event. Broadly, aspects like the basics of LC-MS/MS, its clinical utility in newborn screening and therapeutic drug monitoring, biomarker discovery for cancer detection and the role of genetic counsellor was discussed during the CME. This activity benefited the students and faculty to understand the utility of the advanced facilities available in the institute.
