The department of Pediatric and preventive dentistry, JSS dental college and hospital, under the banner of special smiles- Extension of Oral Care Services for Children with Special Health Care Needs and Medically Compromised Conditions at Department of Pediatrics, JSS Hospital Mysuru conducted oral health screening and educational camp at Aashiana - Institute for special children at udayagiri, Mysuru on April 3rd 2024 marking the World Autism Awareness Day. The event commenced with a prayer by the students of the Aashiana Institute. The camp was led by Dr Raghavendra Shanbhog, Reader; Dr Chanchala HP , Lecturer, JSSDCH . The program was presided by guest of honour Dr Dhakshaini MR, Principal, JSSDCH. The resource faculty were Dr Rashmi N, Associate Professor from Dept of Paediatrics, JSS hospital; Dr Nandlal B , professor and Head , Dept of Pediatric and Preventive dentistry, JSSDCH; Dr Deepa Bhat, Professor, Dept of anatomy, JSSMCH; Dr Raghavendra Shanbhog, Reader; Dr Chanchala HP , Lecturer, JSSDCH. The camp emphasised on educating the parents to maintain their children’s oral health, including the importance of diet and dental caries and an insight was provided on the usage of mobile phone and its risks in young children, the program also provided an over view on the role genetic and environmental factors in the causation of Autism. Significance of the Modes of prevention and early intervention was spoken in the session. The camp was supported by the Interns Dr Sahana Patil, Dr Samyuka Gowda, Dr Sara who atively participated in screening of oral cavity. Appreciation to Indoco Warren pharmaceuticals for generous distribution of pediatric toothpaste and oral hygiene kits. All the students of the institute were screened, Parents were educated and provided with Oral hygiene kits.
