The Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at the School of Life Sciences, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, organized two events on December 1, 2022, to mark World AIDS Day. The events included a walkathon called 'Jaatha' and a stage program aimed at raising awareness and motivating the public. Participants included university authorities, faculty members, students from various departments, NCC members, as well as students from pharmacy and nursing colleges in the city. The walkathon, flagged off by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Member Secretary Sri Devaraja Bhute from Millennium Circle (LIC Circle) on Bengaluru-Mysuru Road, concluded at JSS AHER. The event was conducted in collaboration with various government and private sectors, including the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department, Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society, District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit, DLSA, NGOs, and other organizations. The theme of the program revolved around the 3 Es: 'EFFECTUATE AIDS TEST, EQUITY TO END HIV, and END THE STIGMA,' emphasizing the importance of HIV testing, equity in healthcare access, and eliminating stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.
