International Women’s Day Celebration- Awareness lecture on Cervical and Breast cancer. JSS Dental College and Hospital in association with Indian Dental Association , Mysore branch, Women Dental Council and Internal Complaint Committee, JSS DCH celebrated International Women’s day on 11 th March 2024 at JSS Dental College & Hospital, JSSAHER , Mysuru. The program began by invoking the Almighty and lighting of the lamp by the Guest of the day Dr Dhakshaini M R, Principal, JSS Dental College and Hospital, Dr Jai Shankar HP, Vice Principal, Guest Speaker for the day Dr C B Avinash, HOD & Senior Medical Oncologist Clearmedi Radiant, Mysuru , IDA Mysuru Branch President Dr Mahesh KP, Dr Raghunath N, HOD, Dept of Orthodontics, Treasurer- IDA Mysore branch, Women’s Dental Council Convener Dr Brinda Godhi and Co Convener Dr Meenakshi S, and Mrs. Anushree, Administrative Officer JSSDCH were present on this occasion. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) reports the most common types of cancer in Indian women are the cancer of the cervix, breast, mouth/pharynx, and esophagus. Keeping this in mind the program was initiated on awareness regarding cervical and breast cancer for our multitasking women including teaching & non-teaching, paramedics and Auxiliary staff. Dr C B Avinash sensitized the importance of early identification of breast cancer and cervical cancer, different methods of prevention starting from self- assessment followed by clinical examination by the experts. He emphasized on the importance of Mammography, clinical investigations and its prevention. He instilled a positive attitude towards prevention of such cancers which is possible by timely intervention. The take home message was well received by all the participants and appreciated the same. The talk highlighted on diagnostic aids for early detection of cervical cancer and availability of the vaccines to prevent the same at different age groups based on the present protocol. The program benefitted 120 members, which included faculty, students, teaching and nonteaching staff of JSS Dental College and Hospital including IDA members of Mysore branch.
