As part of the Value Added Course – Mushroom Cultivation (VSLSMMB-01) curriculum, students along with faculties visited the Mushroom Cultivation Centre situated in Manasagangotri campus, Mysuru, on 21.08.2023. An overview of What is Mushroom? Types of mushrooms, their importance, methods of cultivation, Materials needed for cultivation, damages, and loss during cultivation and prevention, Preservation and storage, Economic importance, Space area required for cultivation and the benefit of opting to start up, all these contents were addressed in a hall through video. Spawn and different types of mushrooms and the materials required to culture mushrooms were shown to students. Then the methods followed in cultivation were practically shown and students were given a chance to practice the methods with assistance from the technician from the Centre. They were given the knowledge of spawn production, raw material - jowar, hay used for processing and methods to cultivate in large quantities, incubation time, management, and preservation.
